I’m sympathetic to Warner Bros. right here, because the Snyderverse largely needed to go. It was time. The universe was a multitude and it wanted to be cleaned up. A reboot was most likely the least messy solution to go about that. Sadly, which will go away some casualties in its wake. “Blue Beetle” might be certainly one of them. However there’s yet one more hurdle we’ve not touched on but: direct competitors in theaters.

Sadly, the late summer time window is fairly packed this 12 months, with Sony’s “Gran Turismo” and Common’s vampire flick “The Final Voyage of the Demeter” arriving on August 11, only one week earlier than “Blue Beetle.” Plus, August 4 will see “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” and “Meg 2: The Trench” making their solution to theaters. Within the weeks that observe, Blumhouse’s “They Hear,” “The Equalizer 3,” “My Large Fats Greek Marriage ceremony 3,” and “The Nun 2” are on deck.

So even when all the pieces goes proper, the opinions for the movie are nice, and James Gunn says Blue Beetle is a part of the brand new DC Universe, the competitors surrounding the movie is important. But when this movie can overcome the chances and develop into a success? That might be a pleasant little success story, proving that superhero movies can proceed to be relied on by main studios … in the meanwhile.

“Blue Beetle” is ready to hit theaters on August 18, 2023.
