Indie-folk rock artist Hayden has launched Are We Good, his hotly anticipated first new album in eight years. The album is out now courtesy of Arts & Crafts.
Launched by “East Coast,” “Miss Fort Erie,” and “On A Seaside (feat Feist),” Hayden’s triumphant ninth studio album is a crowning achievement in his well-deep catalog of fastidiously hewn indie rock, courting again to his debut album All the pieces I Lengthy For in 1996.
“On A Seaside (feat Feist)” was launched final month alongside a cinematic, star-studded official video, additionally that includes the inimitable Leslie Feist with cameos by Matt Berninger of The Nationwide and beloved actor Steve Buscemi (who Hayden final labored with on the music for Bushes Lounge, Buscemi’s 1997 directorial debut). As we speak, April 5, Hayden has shared the stirring love music and album title monitor “Are We Good.” which was co-written with Berninger and premiered with FLOOD Journal.
“This music was hanging round for some time with a bunch of mumbled lyrics I had as place-setters,” remembers Hayden. “The one line that caught was the chorus ‘are we good.’ I despatched it over to Matt [Berninger of The National] and he got here up with the remaining. Once I learn the strains ‘Are you fearful concerning the previous, coming again to you too quick, Are you fearful concerning the sea, And what’s occurring beneath,’ I knew I’d despatched the music to the correct man.”
A meditative and electrical tune, “Are We Good” is quintessential Hayden, with unabashed nods to the fluidity of Leonard Cohen and the thrill of Loopy Horse. Because the album’s namesake, “Are We Good” posits Hayden Desser, peppered and grizzled (by the pandemic or parenting), in an attic studio stand-off with author’s block throughout early lockdown. The album’s eleven songs had been written, produced, and blended predominantly by Hayden at Skyscraper Nationwide Park, the attic studio of his Toronto house.
