MEXICO CITY — A U.S. vacationer was shot within the leg by unidentified assailants at a resort city on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, prosecutors within the coastal state of Quintana Roo mentioned Tuesday.
They mentioned the taking pictures occurred within the low-key city of Puerto Morelos, simply south of Cancun.
Prosecutors mentioned the American was approached by a number of suspects close to midnight Monday they usually shot him within the leg. The motive stays below investigation.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital in Cancun for remedy, and his harm was judged to be not life-threatening.
The U.S. State Division issued a journey alert earlier this month warning vacationers to “train elevated warning,” particularly after darkish, at Mexico’s Caribbean seashore resorts like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, which have been affected by drug gang violence previously.
There have been a collection of brazen acts of violence alongside the Caribbean coast, the crown jewel of Mexico’s tourism trade.
In 2022, two Canadians had been killed in Playa del Carmen, apparently due to money owed between worldwide drug and weapons trafficking gangs.
In 2021, farther south within the laid-back vacation spot of Tulum, two vacationers — one a California journey blogger born in India and the opposite German — had been killed once they apparently had been caught within the crossfire of a gunfight between rival drug sellers.
