Finland’s embassy in Moscow says it obtained an envelope containing white powder

MOSCOW — Finland’s embassy in Moscow stated it obtained an envelope containing white powder and has turned it and two different sealed envelopes to authorities for investigation, the spokeswoman for the Russian International Ministry stated Friday.

Maria Zakharova stated on the ministry’s web site that the embassy reported three equivalent envelopes addressed to the Finnish navy attache have been discovered within the embassy mail. One was opened and white powder was discovered inside; the opposite two have been left unopened.

“All three envelopes have been handed over by the diplomatic mission to Russian legislation enforcement businesses,” she stated.

The incident comes lower than two weeks after Finland, which shares a 1,340-kilometer (830-mile) border with Russia, grew to become a member of the NATO navy alliance. Finland had maintained neutrality for many years, however sought membership quickly after Russia despatched troops into Ukraine in February 2022.
