A prisoner who poured boiling water over a susceptible fellow inmate earlier than beating and raping him has been jailed for 12 years.
Robert Reynolds, a prisoner at HMP Winchester, threw boiling water from a kettle on the sufferer, inflicting burns to his again and face, earlier than punching and kicking him in the course of the assault in July 2021.
The 29-year-old then raped and sexually assaulted the person, who was in his 20s on the time, Salisbury Crown Courtroom heard.
The sufferer was initially handled on the jail earlier than being taken to a specialist burns unit in hospital. He later reported the incident.
Reynolds, now serving time at HMP Bullingdon, was discovered responsible on Wednesday following a five-day trial, having denied grievous bodily hurt with intent, two counts of rape and a sexual assault.
Police described the sufferer, who has since been launched from jail, as “susceptible” and mentioned he’s nonetheless affected each bodily and mentally by the assault.
Det Sgt Harry Wilson mentioned: “This was a horrific assault on a susceptible man in a jail.
“Whereas the sufferer has since left jail, he continues to cope with the bodily and psychological influence of what occurred to him.
“This was a tough and lengthy investigation and I hope this exhibits that we are going to work carefully with the jail to research any legal offences that happen there.”
